Linear Low Density Polyethylene Pipe
Encasement for Ductile Iron Pipe
Scope
This specification establishes minimum requirements for polyethylene sheeting and tubing used for external corrosion protection of buried ductile-iron pipe, fittings and appurtenances.
Applicable Documents
The following specifications form a part of this specification:
- Federal Specification L-P-378E; Plastic Sheet and Strip, Polyolefin.
- American Water Works Association ANSI/AWWA C105/A21.5 Polyethylene Encasement for Ductile-Iron Pipe Systems.
Requirements
Materials
- Unless otherwise specified, material shall be produced with linear low density polyethylene with a density of 0.910 to 0.935.
- Width - tolerances shall be + - ½”. Material width shall be checked at the beginning and end of each roll
- Length – Unless otherwise specified, all material shall be supplied either as continuous rolls without perforations, perforated at 20 foot intervals, or 22 foot intervals. Overall length tolerances on perforated or non-perforated rolls shall be + - two feet. Length tolerances for individual perforated sections shall be + - six inches for either 20 foot or 22 foot perforations
- Thickness – Unless otherwise specified, film shall have a minimum thickness of .008 inches (8MIL).
- Color – Unless otherwise specified, all material shall be supplied black in color containing no less than 2% carbon black.
- Marking – Unless otherwise specified, all supplied rolls shall be randomly printed with the following information: Name of manufacturer, ANSI/AWWA C105-A21.5, 8 MIL LLDPE, Applicable range of nominal pipe diameter, Warning-Corrosion Protection-Repair Any Damage
Quality Assurance Provision
- Any lot which fails to meet the requirements of this specification shall be subject to rejection.
- Any deviation from this specification must be approved in writing.
Preparation for Delivery
Each finished roll of material shall be individually boxed or bulk packed. Individual cartons shall be placed on a suitable sized pallet and stretch wrapped to assure a safe, damage-free delivery. Each carton shall be clearly marked with the following information:
- Width, length and gauge of material
- Perforation length or marked as “continuous length”
- LLDPE
- ANSI/AWWA C105/A21.5
- Year Manufactured
Certification
Unless otherwise specified, each shipment shall contain certification that material meet the minimum requirements specified by each customer and American Water Works Association Specification ANSI/AWWA C105/A21.5. Any deviation must be done so in writing.
